What Mean Girls Can Teach You About Freelancing

October 3, 2019 by Brittany Leave a Comment

There are rules to the online world of freelancing and business. Just like Regina George and the rest of the plastics, if you dont follow them “you can’t sit with us”.

via GIPHY

Just kidding, you can always sit with us, but your clients and customers may not be as forgiving. In honor of National Mean Girls Day (Yes, it’s a REAL thing) … we have put together a list of our favorite references and gifs from the movie to help you learn about freelancing and have some fun along the way.

What We Can Learn from Mean Girls as Freelancing Bosses:

1. Clients don’t always know best…

via GIPHY

The old customer service adage is hard to get over. You have to remember that clients are coming to you because you are a professional. They do not know latest trends and online strategies. They can’t do what you do. That’s why they hired you. They’ve come to you for guidance and wisdom. It’s your job to steer them toward good decisions.

Sometimes this means you have to tell clients (in a super kind and professional way) that you have their best interest at heart. Ask them what you can do to earn their trust. Give them the data that backs up your decisions. I bet they will be more inclined to listen!

2. Create systems (and follow them)

via GIPHY

Most of the success with freelancing comes down to making systems that can be easily replicated. The more you refine your services the better your client outcomes will be. That makes it easier to scale your business.

We love making things easier to replicate at Weeknight Website which is why we follow these rules to increase productivity and make sure we are functioning at our best creative level!

3. Act like a boss… and you will get treated like one

via GIPHY

You are a boss. That means thinking about your bottom line. We all want to live in a dreamy world where we are great friends with our clients, them loving us, and our clients paying us extra just for a job well done. This would be amazing right?!?! But being too friendly with a client will cause them to push your boundaries. When you are a freelance boss girl, you can not take it personally. It is about business.

I’m not saying things can’t be fun. Have fun! Just make sure to keep things professional so that you are treated like a professional.

4. Words matter

via GIPHY

Whether you like it or not, Regina George was right about one thing. “Fetch” never happened. Admit it, you probably tried it once or twice but it never caught on. I think the reason why “fetch” never happened is because it’s definition was unclear. Seriously, what does it really mean?

When talking to our clients, we need to be mindful of the words we use so that communication is clear. Remember, you’re a professional. You might be accidentally using language that your clientele doesn’t fully understand.

For example, don’t use words like “kerning” or “leading.” Those are designer words and you aren’t talking to a designer. Use words like “spacing” and “height.”

When I started freelancing, I had no idea just how much trouble I was causing for myself because I wasn’t communicating clearly. Jobs where taking longer than they should have. I was doing more revisions that necessary. Once my words became more intentional, my work got easier.

Thats why we put together a design feedback webinar JUST for our freelancing friends. This is packed with information that will help you and your clients communicate better. You’ll get things done faster and more efficiently. If you want to snag that webinar and our free design terms glossary to share with clients, snag that below!

See the webinar replay

5. Don’t let your lack of formal education intimidate you

via GIPHY

While some of you beautiful girl bosses may have a great college degree with a ton of workplace experience, there are some of you who do not. Most freelancers start without having experience related to the field you are pursuing now.

Kristen, our CEO, has a film degree. A FILM DEGREE. She had almost no design experience when she started freelancing. She was naturally design-savvy which helped, but she still put in the work to hone her skills and learn her craft. Now, Kristen is a highly sought after web designer that has a 6-figure website design business where people wait months to work with her when her schedule allows it.

If you are looking for some pro advice on how to get inspired to “level up” your design skills, check out this webinar we did with website design inspiration.

6. YOU are special and unique

The best part of Mean Girls is the moment you realize that competition is silly and there is more than enough space for everyone to be themselves. If you grew up on this movie, you know how moving it was when silly Kevin G. finally said…

via GIPHY

Even in an “oversaturated” market or when you are feeling like you might not make it as a freelance designer, be encouraged, what you do is important and special. There is not one other person in the world that is you. No one can do what you do, or create what you create. Be brave and do the things you love. Chase your dreams fearlessly. Don’t let someone else tell you what your limits are (or should be). Be brave and push yourself to learn and grow. That is what freelancing is really about, learning to push yourself to new heights without a boss telling you how it has to be.

YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!!!!

Love this post? We would love a share on social media to encourage the other girl boss freelancing females out there.

Email Marketing Templates to Help You Connect with Your Customers

September 11, 2019 by Brittany 3 Comments

I know you are thinking, “YAY, email marketing templates! Copy. Paste. Done.” Well my friend, we are going to dive a little deeper than that today! We’re going to be talking about building lasting relationships with your clients through email marketing.

People everywhere are talking about “how to write an email sequence” or “how to create emails that sell more”. Well, we’re going to use these email marketing templates below that help your customer so much that they don’t even care about looking at anybody else’s emails.

What is an email sequence? (and why do I need one…) (:38 to 2:58)

An email sequence welcomes your new subscribers and helps you automate your sales and website traffic. The templates in this post go one step further. They create really good relationships with your customers.

Since they are hearing from you regularly, they know your name, they know who you are, and they TRUST you to tell them the truth.

Email marketing leads to more sales every single time. Email marketing converts higher than any social media marketing, any website that you have, and even better than SEO marketing as well.

If the idea of writing email (or website) content intimidates you, make sure that you check out our blog on how to write amazing copy!

Email Marketing Sequence #1- The Welcome Sequence (2:58 to 6:44)

This is exactly what it sounds like. A welcome sequence is made up of three to four high-value emails that are designed to get your reader connected to you and your story. This email comes to a reader right after they have signed up for your list or after thay have downloaded a free offer from you. If you need to know how to make a free email offer to get more email sign up’s visit this blog post. ????

Email #1

The first email they get from you needs to have your link and you need to have your email schedule in there. If you don’t tell them how frequently to expect communication from you and you start emailing every day, they’re going to get a little annoyed. So tell them upfront, “hey, for the next four days you’re going to get an email from me every single day and it’s going to be packed full of value”

I want you to tease your value in the first email. You still have to win their affection. You still have to win their love. This is like a dating relationship. You can’t just be like …”yeah, like I bought you roses, let’s get married.”
No, no, no. That’s not how it works. You have to provide them with so much value. You have to woo your customer. You have to love them and make them feel understood and heard. Think of it like a relationship, because it is.

Email #2

This email needs to be devoted to telling your story. Using our same dating analogy, think of this as a first date. Tell them who you are and what you care about. What dreams and goals do you have? But just like any good date… Include some questions and encourage a dialogue!

People Follow Stories, Not Sales Copy.

Email #3

This is the email where you give them something new. At this point in your relationship they know more about you, you may know about them a little more and now it’s time to tell them they are important to you and you are on their side.

This is your chance to wow them. Give them something that is going to guide them through the next step. If you provide them the answers, they’ll keep following you right down the road to the sale.

Email #4

Now that we know more about our customers, we want to give them something that speaks directly to them. This fourth email is the place where you divide your audience and you give them high value, high-quality content that they can’t get anywhere else. We’re trying to find out what is most important for your customer and what do they want to learn how to do.

The reason why we want to have that information is that the next thing we’re going to do is take them over to an educational sequence.

The team at Weeknight Website wanted to give to a jump start on this step. Click below to get the download of our welcome sequence email marketing templates!

Get the Welcome Sequence Templates

Email Marketing Sequence #2: The Educational Sequence (6:44 to 8:15)

An educational sequence is a great one to have because it actually helps you give them a “quick win”. This is something that is easy and that they can implement right away that will make a difference in their life. You want to send them three to four educational emails. Each email should solve a specific problem. So think about the next problem that they’re going to need to solve.

NOTE: It’s always better if you can link to your own content.

Make sure that you send these every three to five days in frequency. I tend to do closer to the two to three-day mark because I don’t want people to forget who I am. I don’t necessarily want a whole week to go by without them hearing from me.

Email Marketing Sequence #3: The Sales Sequence (8:15 to 13:11)

Once they’ve gone through your educational sequence, you want to move them over to a sales-focused email sequence. You want to give them 3 product (or program) focused emails. Those emails are going to go as follows. These emails can come at a daily interval and once they are done with the sales sequence, mark them as ready for your weekly newsletter.

Email #1 The Offer

What are you giving them? What are you providing for them? How does it meet their needs and what kind of solution are you giving them? One of the reasons why people struggle with selling online is they offer something that people don’t want and they’re not willing to pay for it.

If you’re not seeing the sales that you want to see, go back to your offer and reevaluate it.

Email #2 Testimonials

Email number two is creating that emotional connection again but this time it is with people that are just like them. This is the point where you create an emotional connection and you help them identify with your audience. Using testimonials, you’re helping them identify emotionally with the people that purchase and get success from your product or program.

Email #3 The Final Pitch

This is the point where you give them a final push. Keep in mind that only about 2% to 3% of your audience is really ready to purchase at this point. Some of them may come back later, so don’t be too hard on yourself when you see a 2% sales rate. 2% is actually really good!

Does Your Website Copy Suck? How to Fix It + Keep Readers Happy!

September 6, 2019 by Brittany 1 Comment

We all know that what we say online is important, but rarely do we think of our website copy as part of that equation. We see everyone from seasoned marketing professionals to first-time newbie website creators struggle with their website copy and how to make sure it comes across as professional yet fun to read.

So, what is the key to standing out and making a statement with your copy, without feeling like you are just using someone else’s voice all the time?

Watch the Video Lesson Below

Read the Full Transcript

If we are going to create connections through our screens online, we need to be work on our copy.

So when I say copy, what do I mean? Copy is what we (in the industry) call the words in your emails and your ads, your social media and on your website. That’s why when people say, “I’m a copywriter”, they are usually responsible for writing words for websites and ads.

There is a phenomenon happening online. For a long time, everything was visually focused. That is still true. Visuals matter. If you’re a Weeknight Website member, you’ll see at the end how we can implement some of this stuff on your website and showcase your copy in a way that actually keeps people engaged with your site.

I just want to illustrate how important copy is based on Instagram. For a long time, it was popular for people to have beautifully curated feeds. If you weren’t a photographer, it felt impossible to keep up.

This isn’t the case anymore. We are experiencing a new generation that wants authenticity.

Ask Yourself: What value do you deliver through your content and your copy?

Better Copy = Better Connection

1. Get the thoughts flowing (6:58 to 8:28)

So the first thing we need to do to write for a website is to get the thoughts flowing. So here’s what I do when I need to sell something and I don’t know what to say. I start with this phrase, “what I really want to say is ____”.

Open a google doc or get a piece of paper and write an unfiltered page with your thoughts. Don’t think about editing it right now, simply let your writing be a stream of consciousness.

This is going to get your creative juices flowing. It doesn’t mean that you’re not going to edit it, but for now, write unfiltered.

2. Apply the friend filter (8:28 to 15:10)

Guys, here’s the deal. I might not look like it (cause I know I look really cool) but I am a nerd. Like, I am a legit nerd. You don’t just walk out and start website platforms. Okay? So sometimes we’ll be in our team meetings and I’ll say something and Brittany and Travis will look at me like, “Kristen, what does that mean?”

Don’t make my mistake. Be careful not to start writing things down that make people scratch their heads. Keep in mind that not everyone is an expert. You might be writing words that don’t mean anything to people. If you say something like, “just step into your power”, what does that mean?

Give them tangible results that they can feel. So, what you really mean is, “feel confident when you walk into your next networking event”.

In order to help you with this, apply the friend filter.

What is the friend filter?

Well, it comes from a copy course that I took, called The Copy Cure. It’s is by Marie Forleo and Laura Belgray. In it, they talk about using the friend filter to help you relate your words to the person that you’d want to speak to.

So if you’ve already determined that your audience is a 29 year old woman who sells essential oils on the side. If you know she’s a side hustler with a corporate day job. If you know she’s really into fashion, then keep all those things in mind and write your website copy directly to her.

Pro tip: Attach a picture to your computer screen so that you can pretend to speak directly to them!

If you have someone in your life, like I do with my friend Jen, give them a call and ask them if they connect with your messaging.

It is worth it to get feedback. I know it’s scary to put yourself out there and say “Hey, I’m actually trying to sell something”. Selling things sometimes feels vulnerable because you have something that you’ve worked on so hard.

3. Learn to write GREAT headlines (15:10 to 18:59)

How do you do that? I’m going to show you a secret. At Weeknight Website, we use a few tools that help us improve our email headlines. To watch a demo of us running through how to use the tools, check out the video atom 15:10 to 18:59.

How to Market A Product Online

August 19, 2019 by Brittany 1 Comment

Do you have a product and you need to know how to market a product online AND actually make sales. We understand the struggle to make a viable living making sales online. It’s one thing to have a product, but if you don’t know to actually make sales, or you need help with the technical website stuff, this post is for YOU!

Watch the Full Video Replay Below

Read the Transcript of the Webinar:

I have some really awesome information for you guys today and we are going to be talking about how to make more online sales, your fall guide to increasing conversions. Now a lot of times when we talk about sales and conversions, we forget that people are actually looking at our website regularly during the fall season and that Google is serving us up.

If you’ve followed our free keyword research guide, and you’re applying these keywords to your content, then you’re getting exposure naturally.

How do we increase sales volume?

Fall is the best time for marketing a product online. Sales go up at the end of September all the way through the end of the year and then dive down again in mid-January. Usually, this is the time of year when people are shopping for holidays and family gatherings. You want to capitalize on this fall sales season. Today, I’m going to show you how to market a product online to increase your sales this year.

1. Know Your Customers (1:56 to 4:13)

The first thing that I want you guys to know is that you need to know your customers. If you do not know who your customers are then how are you going to give them the absolute perfect thing to buy? YOU’RE NOT.

Sometimes when people come to me and they say, “Hey, I’m just not making any sales.” The first thing I will ask them is “Who’s your target audience?” If they can’t answer that question, my first step is to go back to the drawing board.

To make sales online, you need to anticipate your customer’s needs.

Ask Yourself:

  • What is going to solve the problem that they are trying to fix?
  • Do they need help finding the perfect gift for somebody that they love?
  • What life goal do they have, and how can you help them meet that goal?

When you help them meet that goal, you’re telling your customer, “I value you and your goals in your life more than I value making a sale.” That strategy is always going to be the best sales strategy you could have.

That’s exactly why, at Weeknight Website, we take such an interest in support and making sure that our members know that we are here for you. We didn’t just set up our Weeknight Website platform because we wanted to give you a website builder. Our goal was to give you website BFF’s that you could call and say, “Hey guys, I can’t figure this out. I just need some help.”

We’ve got an awesome testimonial from one of our amazing users about making the switch to Weeknight Website recently. She said…

Weeknight Website Testimonial from a Happy User.

Do the same thing for your customers. Love them well and they will love you well back, I promise.

If you need help with this step, we have a free worksheet on how to attract your perfect customer online and stand out from the crowd! ????

Key Take-Away: You need to know your customers better than they know themselves.

2. Use Banners and Pop-Ups (4:13 to 5:11)

Who wouldn’t want banners and popups on their websites? Kristin actually covered how to market a product online with banners, popup forms, and all sorts of other cool marketing tips, last week on our Weeknight Website Webinar.

If you do not already know how to add popups and banners to your website to increase sales and email sign-ups, just click the button below to check out the full blog post. Or you can head to our user’s only Facebook group and the complete step by step tutorial for how to add banners and popups to your Weeknight Website is right there.

See How to Add Banners and Pop Up’s

Banners and popups are going to be one of the number one converters for your website during the fall season. You want people to get on your email list, you want people to purchase your products, you want people to use your discount codes. So use those things wisely and…

3. Start NOW (5:11 to 6:24)

Everybody always waits until the last minute. They wait until they are thinking about fall and pumpkin spice lattes and then they’re rushing. They’ve got so many ideas and they don’t have time to accomplish every goal that they had for their fall sales.

I tried to run a Black Friday sale last year and it was comical how hard it was because I started too late in the season. ????

People are starting to buy and starting to think about fall right now so you need to be prepared with your graphics, website, landing pages, and your offers.

You need to be really clear on what you’re selling this fall so that when October comes, you’re ready to press the “go button” and you’re ahead of the game.

You will also be ahead of everybody else because the more time that you’re able to run your campaigns, the more exposure they’re going to get. This especially applies to…

4. How to Market a Product Online Using Social Media for Promo (6:24 to 9:31)

This is so important and there is one specific network that I see people overlook all the time (seriously, I talk about this network probably 3 or 4 times a day to people and they are always shocked.)

USE PINTEREST!

Pinterest is an amazing social media network for easily getting started learning how to market a product online. Did you know that the life of a tweet is about three minutes. The lifetime impact of a Facebook post (that’s not boosted with money) is about three hours?

The lifetime impact of a pin is eight and a half months?

When you pin to Pinterest, it actually is a long term traffic driver because Pinterest is a social media network that is also operating as a search engine.

The more that you know about Pinterest, the more traffic that you can drive to your website and the better your sales are going to be.

If you want quick, lasting traffic, use Pinterest. It is amazing.

MEMBERS ONLY

We have a complete tutorial where teach you how I grew my Pinterest account to over 1.8 million monthly viewers on Pinterest. If you’re not a weeknight website member, you can get a free 7-day free trial and get access to all our member’s benefits. We know you are going to love us so much you will hang around! ????

how to market a product online- pinterest strategy
Check out the Pinterest Course

Now I’m not saying that Facebook and Twitter don’t have their benefits. They absolutely do. But if you’re not using Pinterest, you are missing a huge market segment. Especially when it comes to holiday shopping and planning, people love using Pinterest to buy and plan.

Bonus: How to Market A Product Online with Bundling Strategies (9:31 to 12:54)

Bundling your products is one of my favorite tricks for how to market a product online. Let’s say, for instance, I have an e-book I want to sell. It’s $15 and I want to bundle it with something else that I offer. If I have a coaching product, an audio version of the e-book, a course, or even another e-book, I can increase my average order value by adding in another product that is already a good seller for me. This will also increase the perceived value for my new e-book offering.

Then, I could offer a coupon code for my Black Friday or Holiday special. I would set up a coupon for each social and promotional network so that I knew exactly where each sale came from. This will help me assess which of my leads were converting better.

This is the biggest secret that I can give you guys. Learn to track and learn to measure. If you can do that, you can outsmart anybody else online.

Thanks for joining us for this super fun webinar and if you need help with your Weeknight Website or if you are interested in getting to know us a little better head to our Facebook page and send us a chat!

How to Add A Banner & Pop Up to Your Website

August 13, 2019 by Brittany 1 Comment

It’s almost fall season and you know what that means. Sales… glorious sales! The largest online retail season of the year is coming soon (October to December). We wanted to make sure you had all the tools you needed to increase sales and conversions this year on your website. Go ahead and check out this awesome tutorial on how to add popups to your website and get to creating!

Watch the Training on How to Add A Pop Up to Your Website

Read the Transcript Below

Note: This is going to be a very training heavy webinar today. We are going to be talking about how to create promotional materials on your Weeknight Website suite of tools. We will cover popups, notification bars, and customizing thank you pages.

If you do not have Weeknight Website you can check out our Free 7-Day Trial and see how easy (and FUN) it can be to create and launch your website!

How To Create A Free Download Page (2:06 to 3:45)

If you have a subscribe form and want to run a promotion to join your email list for a free download, this is a great way to do that.

The first thing that we’re going to need is to upload something that they can download.

  1. Go to your dashboard
  2. Select media library
  3. Drag in (or browse your desktop) for what you want to upload.

Is the file too large? One of the best ways to upload things is with a .zip file. All you’ll do is compress your file or put it in a folder and then make that a zip file.

Example: if you have a bundle of songs or audio clips or a bunch of worksheets that you want them to receive, uh, put that in a folder and then compress that folder.

Now what I’m going to need is a thank you page so that they can get their free downloads with one click.

Create A Thank You Page (3:46 to 8:33)

  1. Go to “new page”
  2. Name it thank you page
  3. Make it a no header and footer page
  4. Open the page (it will be empty)

Don’t want to reinvent the wheel and build from scratch? You have a few options!

Option 1: Drag in one a prebuilt row and customize it for your own needs.

Option 2: (our favorite way!) Open your original download page. Save your row as a template. Name it something that you can remember easily. Then add it to your thank you page.

Customize Your Thank You Page

Now that you have your download page and your thank you page set up correctly, let’s hook up your freebie and customize your thank you page! The advantage of having an extra thank you page is instead of just pointing them to the download via email, we can add in a Facebook pixel code specific to the page so that we can track people on our lists.

  1. Add a button for downloading your freebie
  2. Get the link from your media library that leads to your freebie
  3. add the link to your thank you page
  4. Click done and publish
  5. Grab the link for this page and now we’re going to add it into our subscribe form

Some other options for the Page

Option 1: make the page a full height row. Click the wrench icon in the left-hand corner of the row settings and under hight click “full-height”

Option 2: make the page a no header no footer option page in the page settings.

Now let’s connect the 2 pages so they work together for seamless customer experience.

  1. Open the builder on our original download page
  2. Open the Email form module on your page
  3. Select redirect under success action
  4. Add the thank you page as the success URL
  5. Celebrate your new awesome freebie offer! ????

Last Tip: Make sure you open your download page in an incognito mode in your browser (this will show you exactly what the customer sees) and go through the download process yourself so that you can make sure everything is working properly.

How to Add A Banner To Your WordPress Website (8:33 to 13:55)

And another thing that you might want to do is add a banner that comes down at the top when somebody visits your site. I’m going to show you a way to do it that’s already installed in your Weeknight Website.

  1. Go to your dashboard
  2. Navigate to Builder (on the left-hand side)
  3. Select Themer Layouts
  4. Click Add New (at the top next to Themer layouts)
  5. label Your new layout notification bar
  6. Select Themer Layout
  7. Under layout select “part”
  1. Position: you can choose where it appears. In this example we want it to appear before the header navigation. If you wanted to add it somewhere else, there are tons of other options. Feel free to experiment.
  2. Location: You will need to tell the bar where you do and do not want it to show up. For example, you don’t want on your thank you or download page, but I do want it on my homepage. The easiest thing to do is set the Location to “entire site” and then click add exclusion rule to pick specific pages you do not want it to show on.
  3. Launch the Weeknight Website Builder
  1. Add a row right.
  2. Make it full width
  3. Style your row however you like by adding a background color, text, and even images if you want.
  4. Once you are happy with the look of your notification bar, click done and publish.
  5. Navigate to our home page to see how it looks.

Other Options: You can have the notification bar sitting at the top automatically on loading the page or you can add animation. A word of caution when it comes to animations: Some of these might look really silly. Be careful and be subtle when you’re using animations. The more that you use animations the cheesier it can look.

Create A Pop-Up Banner (13:55 to 25:49)

We offer a plugin with Weeknight Website that you can use to create pop-ups. However, there is another more customizable way to create a pop-up that I will show you now.

The first thing you are going to want is a saved row and we are going to create a page template. Weeknight Website makes creating your own website templates super simple and easy to use!

  1. Go to “new” and select “template” (at the top in the black WordPress admin bar for your website)
  2. Add a name for your template
  3. Type is “template”
  4. Click Add Saved Template
  5. Launch the Weeknight Website builder
  6. Click the plus icon in the upper right-hand corner
  7. Under saved, select your saved row and drag it into your template page
  8. Click Done and Publish

Now that we have the saved template, we can use it in so many ways across the website. There are actually some modules that allow you to use templates to load inside of them. To add your pop up to your homepage

  1. Navigate to your home page and then open your Weeknight Website builder.
  2. Click the plus button
  3. Drag in this module called modal box (note: you can drag it anywhere on the page. It’s not actually going to show up where you put it, it’s gonna show up based on a set of rules we will define.)
  4. You can choose is if you want it to be standard (a smaller box on your screen) or if you want it to be full screen (the entire screen gets taken over by the pop up)
  5. Add a title if you want one, this will appear outside of your template
  6. Add your saved template into the window

Note: If you have a mailing list company that gives you forms that you can embed you will want to go ahead and use HTML to embed the form. All you do is paste the HTML code into the modal box here and it will show as a pop-up.

Deciding on a Trigger

Next, we need to decide on a trigger for the pop up to show. A trigger is an action that will cause the pop-up to show automatically when the trigger action is met. Please note that the “other” option is for CSS and should only be used if you know Javascript or CSS thoroughly.

Auto: this will automatically display the pop-up after your set time delay (ie. 20 seconds)

Exit intent: When a website visitor is navigating off your website and intending to leave, you can trigger the pop-up to show them your offer one last time.

On Click: This allows you to create a button and show the pop-up when a user clicks the button to get your offer.

The next thing is to choose if it has a background color or not. If I didn’t have a template with a predefined background color, I might actually choose color or image to load here.

Once you are happy with the look of your pop-up click “Save” and then done and publish.

If you ever want to preview it again, navigate to your builder and just click on the modal box.

You can also decide on the animation it’s going to come up at. The default is set to fade-in, which looks nice and is unobtrusive.

Other Fun Tools to Try (23:41 to 25:49)

While we do have a lot of great tools you may already be using, here are a few small tools you may want to try out as well and may not already know that we have pre-installed for you!

To see all the Weeknight Website plugins we have installed go to your website dashboard and go to Plugins on the left-hand side.

Hustle Pro: This plugin is great for your GDPR slide in. You can also connect your mailing list through Hustle Pro. There’s popups, slide-ins, all of that. You can just activate it on your Weeknight Website and play with it in the backend. It’s not quite as visual as our Weeknight Website builder but if you don’t want to work with templates and modal popup’s, this is another option for you.

Lead Pages Connector: Some of our Weeknight Website members use lead pages and lead boxes in particular for your popups. With Weeknight Website you can actually go ahead and connect your lead pages account and then use their lead boxes, integration for popups, um, by using this plugin.

Giving Your Best Yes: Setting Business Goals and Crushing Them Every Time

August 5, 2019 by Brittany Leave a Comment

Today’s topic is giving your best yes how to set and crush your business goals. Now, this is a concept that I’ve heard multiple times from people like Jenna Kutcher, Allie Casazza, and some others. Setting solid business goals has everything to do with knowing boundaries and how to set them properly. You need to know how to make sure that you feel healthy through the process of setting up your online business. We see a lot of websites (obviously) at Weeknight Website, but I want to talk to you about some of the life choices that you can make that will actually help you get further, faster, in your online business.

Watch the Video Replay Here

1. Determine Your Ultimate Priority (1:10)

This is a lesson that we have to learn from the time that we are 10 years old. My daughter is 12 and she’s learning priorities right now. She’s homeschooled and I don’t tell her when to start on her school work. She has learned that if she starts on her schoolwork at five in the afternoon and she’s working on it until bedtime the choice was hers.

The funny thing about this is that a lot of times, in the society that we’ve grown up in, the structure has been part of our daily routine. Most of the time other people’s structure and values have defined how we process information and how we organize our day. If you are actually looking to make a move from working that nine to five grind to your dream business online, the thing that you first have to understand is that your priorities are going to determine your schedule.

In reality, your priorities are going to determine everything about your day. Everything from conversations, tasks you do, and even to the people that you meet and the events that you say yes to. Knowing your priorities is really important.

If you’re a Weeknight Website member, I have a little cheat sheet for you. It is my personal goal tracking worksheet and it actually has helped me know step by step what are my goals, what are my priorities and where I putting my time, my focus, and my energy.

2. Develop Healthy Boundaries (3:45)

Boundaries look like all sorts of different things. They’re not just saying no, they’re also saying yes. If you listened to Kristen’s weekly webinar last week, she talked about practicing the art of saying no. It was such good advice because a lot of times we feel the necessity to say yes to people out of guilt or obligation.

Not all sacrifices will produce the right kind of results you WANT.

Let’s think about this in a holistic mindset. For example,  if you’re trying to lose weight and you’re not willing to sacrifice donuts, that’s going to be problematic for you. You’re either going to have to go burn all of that at the gym (P.S.I’ve tried that. It doesn’t work, just FYI), or you’re going to end up feeling frustrated because you’re never meeting your goals. All of this is just because you didn’t set healthy boundaries for yourself.

It’s the same thing with our schedules and our online business. When you start a website, it can be really easy to be overwhelmed with all the things. There’s a lot to do when you start a website. Honestly, you have to set boundaries that work for you and work for your family and the only way you know what those boundaries are is if you have set your ultimate priorities. And remember that your priorities have to line up with your boundaries. For instance, if I say my priority is blogging for the week, but I make a priority of doing client work over my blog, then I’ve essentially said no to my priority and given preference to somebody else’s priority.

Now I’m not saying that I’m perfect at this. It’s taken me years, almost 10 years of trying to refine this process for myself, and it looks different in every season. But once I defined my priority properly, then I could set boundaries that aligned with that priority. I was able to ask myself ‘What can I handle within that priority?”

3. Priorities Shift with Seasons (7:36)

I want to be clear, your ultimate goals, your calling, the thing you love and you’re passionate about, that will never change. That’s your heartbeat.

What is going to change is the things underneath of that. The priority tasks the serve that ultimate calling will change throughout your life. You need to have the flexibility to say, “this summer my kids are out of school and I want to be with them” and that be ok with you.

From there you can ask yourself “what do I need to do now that will enable that lifestyle later without me feeling like I’ve totally missed everything?” and make a list of those things.

With an online business, people are consistently and constantly reaching out to you and expecting immediate responses. You don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to connect with somebody who might genuinely really want what you’re offering. Can I just encourage you? Don’t run yourself into the ground so much that you can’t function as a person and you’re no longer valuable to the people around you.

This is about protecting you and building an online business, it’s a balance.

4. Batch Everything (9:45)

I’m telling you when I learned the secret of batch working, which I now do from my blogs and I do for certain pieces of content, website redesigns, creating freebies, meetings and coaching calls, I allow myself the time and the space to batch my life for better productivity.

You have to do it the right way because you can’t just shut off email off for two days not going to do anything without warning. Now I’m going to tell you guys something else.

This secret is the dirty little secret to HIGH productivity.

All those influencers online that you see, all those people churning out content day after day, it’s because they’ve scheduled it. They didn’t just happen to decide to do a live talk or a webinar or a blog post. Sometimes they will and it’s spontaneous and that’s cool, but most of the time those things are planned in advance. Especially when it comes to a marketing campaign, all so I want to give you guys permission to give yourself a little bit of runway to get started, okay? This is not easy stuff. You’re talking about things that have taken marketers and other online influencers years to learn.

So that’s pretty much it for me today. If you want to read more about getting more productive check out our blog, mindset shifts to stay consistent, it has some awesome info there to help you plan and get more content done FASTER.
